The Masjid
One of the UK’s largest purpose built mosques, with a congregational capacity of 5,000, located in the heart of Birmingham, providing a wide range essential services and facilities to the Muslim community.
Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif was established to promote the faith of Ahle Sunnah Wal Jama’ah, commonly known as Sunni Islam, following the Sunni Hanafi school of Jurisprudence.
The charity was founded by the Khulafa of Darbar e Aaliya Ghamkol Sharif under the guidance and support of Ala Hazrat Khawaja Qibla Syed Zinda Peer Sahib ﵀, known as Zinda Pir Sahib (1912 – 1999).
The roots of our Charity, go back as far as 1952, to an area named by Zinda Pir Sahib ﵀, as Ghamkol Sharif. This is located in a valley, just off the outskirts of a local town called Kohat (approximately 3 miles) in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Ghamkol Sharif Education Centre caters for a spectrum of learning, pivoting around core Islamic subjects. The learning needs of children and young people are different from those of their parents or grandparents. We are looking to make a quantum leap, in how we meet these learning needs.
Our approach is to be creative and innovative; as well as pushing the boundaries of what an education centre should deliver and its place in our community, through a holistic thought-provoking and engaging curriculum and associated services.
The Ghamkol Sharif Education Centre is not a place where parents and family members leave their children to be educated; instead, it is a partnership of learning between parents, children, young people, and the Madrasah.
It is a place where children will be safe, will be allowed to be creative, to play and explore, to learn how to learn, while encouraging the desire and the love to want to learn. To develop a growth mindset as opposed to a fixed mindset.
The Ghamkol Sharif Education Centre aims to inculcate ‘the love of learning’ by educating and preparing morally upright members of society. Children who will be an example of what can be achieved:

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, (previously known as the North West Frontier Province) of Pakistan, close to the birth place of Zinda Pir Sahib ﵀, known as Jungle Khail, Kohat.
After a short period in the army, Zinda Pir Sahib ﵀, in 1952 went to Hajj. On his ﵀ return, and on the commandment of Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ, he ﵀ initiated the movement, Ghamkol Sharif, in this uninhabited and unnamed barren valley.
Khulafa settled across the globe and those that settled in Birmingham from the late ninety-fifties started supporting the Muslim community in Birmingham, and in the early ninety-eighties the Charity was established from Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath.
Without the generous and kind support from our congregation, beneficiaries and the wider Muslim community, the work we can do to make a difference would be limited.
Charity is a core principle in Islam.
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi)
By the Grace and Mercy of Allah ﷺ, there are opportunities for you to support our work and for you to gain immense reward, Insha’Allah in this life and the Hereafter.
By making the intention to also send the rewards of your charity to your loved ones, alive or those who have left this temporal world, your sacrifices will also benefit them, Insha’Allah.
The three best things to leave behind after death:
Abu Qatadah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“The best of what a man leaves behind are three: a righteous child who supplicates for him, ongoing charity the reward of which reaches him, and knowledge that is acted upon after him.”
